American Civil War, 28mm, 1st Texas Regiment

Hello there! I have intended to add further Confederate troops to my collection for a long time now. I am recreating the Texas Brigade at Antietam and these are part of the same brigade the Hamptons Legion are in.

Confederate regiments became very small as the war progressed. The figure ratio for the rules I use is approximately 1:25 so a base of four figures works out at 100 men. This leaves 500 men as a bit big for some Confederate units as the war progressed but the figure stands are generic so can easily be swapped between future units.

The problem with painting Confederate troops is to make a change to the possibly monotonous range of greys and browns. I have tried to vary the shades of the uniform so that they do not all look the same.

I have read that the Texas Brigade were uniformed in 'English Grey' uniforms just before the Battle of Antietam. I have since been unable to find this reference but have used 964 Field grey as this colour with suitable shading and highlighting.

The command base is specifically 1st Texas Regiment and the flags are from GMB Flags. I have used pikes from 1st Corps for the flag poles.

I have further figures to complete the brigade along with command figures, which will appear in due course.

American Civil War Casualties and Casualty Markers

Hello There! Along with the Cantinieres I have also been working on some more casualty markers for the American Civil War.

Some are intended for the skirmish project and others for larger units for big games.

The figures are a mix of Perrys, Foundry, Steve Barber figures and a single Dixon as well, which are intended for the skirmish project and casualty markers for larger units.

The ACW rules we use have figures based in fours and take losses by the figure. So if a unit has four 'hits' then a base is removed.

I liked the figure falling over backwards having just been hit. This will go to the skirmish project.

Vivadiere & Cantiniere

Hello There!. As I have had a slight modification to my employment and sometimes work for agency as well as my 'normal' work I have had less time to paint.

These young ladies have been on my work bench for a lot longer than I had planned but here they are now.

The figure on the left is from Eureka Miniatures from their Revolutionary Wars Range here.   Although from their Revolutionary range I have used her here for the Napoleonic period and painted her to mimic the 10th Hussars.

The middle two are from brigade games and are sold in a set here. The one in red is painted in a jacket of the 9th Hussars and the second is in a blue jacket copied from the internet.

The woman on the far right is from Warlord games and she comes complete with a mule loaded with provisions tethered to a post here. She is painted as the 5th Hussars.

I also used the Osprey book on Napoleons Camp Followers here.

These can not only be used for 'fluff' in larger battles but as players or objectives in skirmish games. They will also featured in a feature on logistics for WSS magazine as it was not only the armies logistics which supplied the army when either in barracks or on the move.

Here are some more close ups of the completed project. I never knew that there were so many Camp Women available from different suppliers but they did take a bit of time on the internet to find them!

Leipzig Refight

Hello There! The club I go to recently put on a refight of a part of the Battle of Leipzig. I was unable to attend the weekend part of the game but here are some pictures of the set up and start of the game.

I have only left the photos here as captions for everything would take an age so please enjoy these figures for you delight!

There are further photographs on the New Buckenham Historical Wargamers Facebook page here and here
