Explosion Markers Again!

 Hello There! With a little spare time I have completed some more explosion markers.    

In all there pictures the figure used to show size is a 20mm FAA British infantryman based on a one pence piece, These are the same as the markers you have seen previously. These are based on a one pence piece and are £2.50 each.

These are the same as above but are slightly larger, being based on a two pence piece.  They are £3.00 each.

These are multi limb explosions and based on a MDF 50mm diameter base. These are £9.00 each.

These are the same as the two pence piece based explosions but are wrapped in an airbrushed cloud with sparks flying out of the explosion. These are £6.00 each.

These are the multi limbed explosions with an airbrushed cloud around the base. They are £11.00 each.

I have plans to use these in my next refight of Bir Hacheim.

New Explosion Marker

Hello There! While I have had the opportunity to work on some more explosion markers, I have made one of these:

The figures are SHQ British Mediterranean infantry. in 20mm, for scale. It is based on one of the markers from my previous post here.

Initially I glued some flower arranging wire into the explosion, with a small rounded piece of milliputt on the end to represent shrapnel coming out from the explosion.

I asked a wargaming colleague for his opinion and after a discussion he suggested adding some 'smoke'

I used stuffing fibre from Hobbycraft but this can also be found in an old pillow. I only had to use a small piece as I could prise the fibres apart and then spread them upwards.

I had already sprayed the fibre a brown colour because I intend it to be used for the desert or NW Europe.

I used PVA and paint across the base to keep the fibre in place and then when I was satisfied with its position I added a spray of black as well.

The small pieces in the 'smoke' are dried tea leaves to add to the pieces flying from the explosion.

Overall I am please with the result and grateful for the feedback from my wargaming colleague.

I may make a few more to add to the forthcoming Bir Hacheim refight that I would like to put on again sometime in the future.

NEW Explosion Markers

 Hello There! I have had some time to make some smaller explosion markers, which are now for sale.

Here is a close up of the new items, made in a small and large size. 

To give you a better idea of size here is a shot with a ruler. As you can see they vary from 20mm to 30mm high.

The larger ones are based on a 2 pence piece and the smaller ones on a one pence piece.

Here are the small explosions on the left and the larger on the right. The vehicle for comparison is an old Matchbox Sherman Firefly.

More Explosion Markers

Hello There. With a little break from work I have managed to complete some small jobs.

These items are for sale at £9.00 each but I can sell all 5 for £40.00 Plus P & P.

They vary between 7cm to 9cm high and are made of clump foliage soaked in PVA and water so are hard.

One is on a 4cm diameter base while the rest are on a 5cm diameter base.

The figures are 28mm Perrys French Light Infantry

Explosion Markers

Hello There! While I have had work get in the way again, I have also been editing and adding captions to the photographs I took at the Suffolk Military Show last year. As this has taken a long time here is a quick post about some further explosion markers I have made.

The original one of these was originally intended as a master for a resin model. This proved far too optimistic to make as removing it from the mould would almost certainly destroy the mould itself.

I sold the original after painting it up and was then asked for some more.

Initially resistant to making more, as they were so labour intensive, they would be little profit due to the time required to make them. I was talked around into making some by a customer.

These are different to the foam markers I have also made and are very hard wearing. As there are many layers of PVA and water required to dry, before they can be painted, they take many days of drying to make.

Here are some spares I have made. I usually make a few extras at a time because if the odd one goes awry then I still have enough to complete an order.

Sales at SELWG

Hello There! A big thanl you to all the wargames who purchased the foam woods and explosion markers from the bring and buy sale. It was a passing thought the night before that made me bring them along and proved to be a great idea.

There was only one small bag of explosions left from eleven bags of same and tex foam woods.

As you can see I have started to make some more and these will be posted on the blog when ready and more will be on the bring and buy stall next year.

There shall also be some more explosion markers as well.

I was told by the stall organisers that supplying a bag with the purchased was popular as when you buy something you normally have the problem of how to carry it and get it home. I am glad that any customers found this useful. Also as it was a paper bag it was environmentally friendly, recylable, reusable and compostable.

Foam Woods and Explosion Markers

 Hello There! I have some items for sale and would like to put them on here. The amount of interest will determine if I do anymore so if you would like something like this please contact me through this blog.

1.Here are some foam woods. The figures to show size are 28mm Spanish Guerrillas on a two pence piece. The tree trunks are thin dowel and cocktails sticks. The dried paint on the trees has made the foam hard. They are dry brushed a lighter green and spray varnished overall.  Sold as a set and are £15 plus Postage & Packing.

THESE WOODS HAVE NOW BEEN SOLD,(10/04/21), HOWEVER I AM MAKING SOME MORE AND THESE WILL BE POSTED ON THIS BLOG IN DUE COURSE.

2.These explosion markers have two pence pieces glued to their base to weigh them down and stop them falling over.  Sold as a set this set is £12 plus postage and packaging.

 

3.These two large explosion markers are more suitable for larger calibre guns. They are weighed down with two pence pieces and are £8 for the pair plus Postage and Packaging.

4.This group are medium sized markers with various arrangements of explosion arms. This groups are weiged down again and are £15 plus Postage and Packaging.

5.This group does not have the extending arms like the previous items and portray the explosion but not as well developed. They are approximately the same size. Again they are weighed down and are sold as a set. £8 plus Postage and Packaging

6.This and the next set are various sizes. Again weighed down and suitable for different calibres of gun. £10 plus Postage and Packaging

New Explosion Markers

Hello Again! After the interest shown in the foam explosion markers at the SELWG I have added to the range by adding some 'single plume' markers with one and two pence pieces glued to their base.

A small selection is available now and I am making others as I post this.

Here, with a SHQ 20mm German figure and a Perrys 28mm ACW Union dismounted cavalryman for comparison show the height of the markers.

These vary from 45mm to 55mm in height and 35mm to 45mm in diametre.

All items are made of foam, shaped, soaked in black paint, PVA and water mix. Then they are drybrushed to give the final effect.

The original explosion markers are also available in a smaller size with multiple plumes. Again the same figures are shown as an illustration to height and size.

New Products from Tunnies Terrain

Whilst producing some small woods from foam, for my trade stand at SELWG next month, I realised that I could use the same process to make some explosion markers.

After soaking them in paint and allowing them to dry I added a bit of colour and produced these.

Here is an SHQ 20mm Italian infantryman and a Perry 28mm Union cavalryman for size comparison. 

Unlike the resin explosion markers on the markers these are cheaper and will not shatter on hitting the floor. These bounce! They weigh next to nothing and come in a variety of sizes.

These are obviously larger explosions but I shall be making some smaller ones before SELWG.

Here are the woods which started the idea off.

These represent mixed woods of deciduous and conifer trees with trunks. They can be made in any shape to add variation to your wargames table and weigh very little so are not a problem to transport and offer a cheap alternative to individual trees which can shed foliage clusters when stored.
